MDA Sectors: Defense
Drones are transforming the defense sector by enabling forces to operate smarter, faster, and with greater situational awareness across complex and contested environments. From installation security and range operations to training, logistics, and homeland defense, uncrewed systems are unlocking new levels of precision, responsiveness, and operational efficiency.

Defense operators are using drones for perimeter security, force protection, infrastructure inspection, route reconnaissance, and training support. High-resolution imagery, thermal sensors, and advanced detection payloads provide near real-time intelligence that supports rapid decision-making, threat identification, and mission planning. In base and facility operations, drones enhance situational awareness, monitor critical assets, and reduce risk to personnel by performing tasks in hazardous or hard-to-reach areas.

As this technology continues to evolve, the Michigan Drone Association is committed to ensuring that defense stakeholders have a strong and informed voice. We are fostering collaboration across government, industry, and academia, supporting workforce development and policy alignment, and helping our members navigate FAA regulations, federal acquisition pathways, and emerging standards to responsibly integrate uncrewed systems into defense and security operations.
